Thousands of students call UNC-Charlotte home. It is their city. It is their turf. It is their field. And for thousands of them, God is not even on their radar. They don't wake up in the morning and think, "I wonder what God is going to do today." They don't wake up on Sunday morning thinking, "You know what I need to do today...I need to go to church." God is not on their mind. For many of them, God has left the building.

We need you to pray. We need you to ask God to raise up students who will suprise other students with the reality of God's love. I am already excited for what God has in stored for us here at Impact. This is a year of new beginnings for our ministry. We are no longer trying to create events that draw people to us. Instead we are now living missionally on campus. We realized in order to reach the 25,000+ students of UNC Charlotte we cannot expect them all to come to Impact meetings. So we have to go to them! That is why this year we are finding and raising up student leaders who will be leading Bible studies in their own dorms in order to bring the gospel back to their surroundings.

We don't just want students to be surviving their college years. We want students so in love with God that it overflows and they become contagious, rubbing off on everyone they come in contact with.

The weekend prior to the first week of classes we had a lock-in with our 15 student leaders in which we cast this vision. It was overwhelming to see how eager they are and excited to share the Gospel with the campus. God is working in many of these student's hearts and we have the opportunity to be part of God's plans. There are plenty of students hungry for God ... we just have to find them. Like Jesus said "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." God is going to do amazing things in this university!

This last Monday was the first official week of the new school year and we hit the ground running. We wanted to create more opportunities to interact with the freshman this year, therefore we decided to take over the freshman dorms. From Sunday to Thursday we were serving subs, pancakes, playing sports, and had our third annual 49,000 Water Balloon Fight. It was exhausting, but we have already seen fruits from our labor. On Tuesday's we hold our church service and already, after only two days of interacting with them, nine freshmen attended. And God continues to open the door for us to meet with many more.

One student in particular expressed to me that he does not like all the large organized religions, but is interested in God. These are exactly the students I am excited to work with. People who might be burnt out on religion, but are hungry for God’s relationship. It is people like him who I will be challenging to start Bible studies in their dorms. I am excited to see him not only survive his freshman year, but to thrive in his relationship with Jesus.

Source: Hit the Ground Running! As we look back over the past seven years we can see God's handprint throughout. We've seen thousands of students call Impact home for a season. We've had the opportunity to watch hundreds of students embrace the reality of Christ. We, as a community, have left an eternal imprint on the culture of our campus. God has truly blessed us...not so that we may enjoy the blessings for ourselves...rather, so that we can be a blessing to those God brings into our lives.

One thing we have never been afraid of is change...not change for the sake of change...but change for the sake of furthering the Kingdom of God...change for the sake of being a blessing to our campus.

Entering this next season we have recognized that a change was eminent. College students are ever changing and we have noticed that we must change the way we do ministry if we wish to reach those that are disconnected from God. We've begun saying that we want to reach people that do not have God on their radar. God is in fact pursuing them but they are not looking for Him...we wish to be a pleasant surprise...introducing them to a God that loves them and will do anything to connect with them.

So...we are making two changes this fall so that we can better connect with the world that God has placed us within.

Change #1 :: This isn't just a change but a major refocus of our main energy. We will make discipleship the most important thing we do. This includes building relationships with people that are not looking for God and doing a better job of discipling those already involved with Impact. We plan on starting Community Groups in resident hall rooms, inviting roommates and hall mates. We can no longer stand back and wait for people to come to us...we must go to them...entering their world...their story...and taking the reality of Christ with us.

Change #2 :: We are moving The Gathering to Tuesday night's at 8P and it will be at an off campus location. Why? We feel God is calling us to build relationships and invite those students involved with Greek life into our community. In order for them to be involved The Gathering must be on a different night. They have their chapter meetings on Sunday nights which makes it impossible for them to come. So the move to Tuesday will make it possible for them to be introduced to our community. Why off campus? We want to meet people where they are. This includes, but is not limited to, music. This move gives us the option of using our sound equipment again. We have always had amazing musicians and this will give them a chance to use their gifts. The amazing thing is this...God opened a door for us to meet at a location within the University block. The building we will be using is next door to campus parking, within walking distance of several apartment complexes and Greek Village. You can see a map of the location and find directions at TheBloc.info. Oh, and we named the building...it's called The Bloc. During the first couple weeks of school we will be using several marketing ideas to let our campus know where we will be meeting on Tuesday nights at 8P.

We are excited about this new season! God has some major things in store for our community this year. Here's the most important thing you, a member of Impact, need to understand- you play a huge part in the advancement of God's Kingdom. When Jesus told his disciples to GO MAKE DISCIPLES he wasn't only talking to paid church staffers. He was talking to EVERYONE! He was talking to YOU! He was calling you to live a missional life. You are a missionary to the world around you. If we want to surprise people with the reality of Christ...the love of Christ...then it will include each of us playing a role...none more important than the other...all essential!
